Enterprise Architecture

Wikipedia defines Enterprise architecture as: the practice of applying a comprehensive and rigorous method for describing a current and/or future structure and behavior for an organization's processes, information systems, personnel and organizational sub-units, so that they align with the organization's core goals and strategic direction.

Our Method

starts with the following broad assumptions:
  • Many business' success or failure is highly dependent on technology, yet many business leaders find it difficult to fully leverage their I.T infrastructure
  • Applying Enterprise Architecture Governance pragmatically gives an Organization a powefull tool to manage its technology
  • Most large Technology Infrastructures have significant amounts of duplication leading to increased cost and reduced agility

We begin with a statement of strategy. A strategy is a framework for saying "No" to good ideas. It's easy to say "No"to bad ideas, and you just can't do everything you want, so a good statement of strategy gives the necessary focus.

Next we define priciples and policies including technology standards that are to be adhered to.

Built on Policies and Standards, Enterprise Architecture Governance is the Process which produces the Metrics so that the Organization can manage the eventual convergence of the technology to the policies and standards

To minimize duplication, maximizing leverage and agility, we decompose business problems into technology initiatives in two dimensions:

  • Content Architecture - a systems agnostic view of information (content) including data models, content objects, Application programming interfaces (APIs), Entities & Relationships, et al
  • Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) - SOA focuses on highly encapsulated shared services made available through loosely coupled APIs

Application Architecture defines how to re-compose the content objects in the information architecture and the services in the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) into the products and solutions needed by the business

Physical Architecture defines how service and application processes are associated with physical computer systems, physical networks and physical data centeres
